In 2003 Stroud Community Agriculture made a successful application to the Lottery
under their Social Economic and Environmental Development (SEED) programme.
Growing Home was a one-year community development project during 2004, with a budget of £25,700, helping to make local organic
food accessible to all.
The aim of the project was to help disadvantaged communities improve the quality
of their environment and promote a more sustainable lifestyle through the
production, processing, distribution and consumption of locally produced
organic food.
The Growing Home project objectives:
- Promote the Stroud CA model as an approach for sustainable development & agriculture.
- Increase
the number of members and ensure a minimum of 50 % of these are
from households with disadvantaged members.
- Increase and diversify production
to supply new members.
- Develop infrastructure that allows processing,
storage and distribution of farm produce.
The project employed a part time community development worker to increase
participation by disadvantaged communities and promote sustainable food
consumption.
The project was sucessfully completed in December 2004. 60 new members joined over the year bringing the total membership to 110.

Members collect vegetables each week and can also buy a share of the meat, if they want to.
Everyone pays a monthly contribution towards the farm and a fee for their
share of the produce.
We want to encourage people from all backgrounds
and income groups to get involved and have set up a small bursay
fund to provide help if needed.
