Wednesday morning volunteering
Fancy spending a morning outdoors, meeting new people and helping the farm? Join us at Hawkwood any Wednesday from 9am to 12 noon.
There are always plenty of useful and enjoyable jobs to get involved with, from weeding, hoeing and planting to stringing up cucumbers and tomatoes or helping with the harvest. It’s a fun and friendly morning, a great way to get some exercise, have a good chat and make a real difference to our farm and our wonderful growers.
There’s absolutely no obligation to come every week - you can simply join us week by week whenever you have the time. No previous experience is needed, and everyone is welcome.
If you’d like to come along, please contact Ruth, who coordinates our volunteers, or call her on 07957 313404.
Weekend volunteering
We’ve also started running regular weekend volunteering sessions. Our aim is to give the Farm Team a well-earned break on the third weekend of every month, and so we have a fantastic group of volunteers who each do a shift lasting 1-2 hours on one of four slots - Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon.
A key task for each slot is to top up the pack shed, to ensure there are fresh veggies available for members to pick up throughout the weekend, but there are usually some extra tasks to complete too whether that is opening and closing our polytunnels to let the veg breathe, watering to keep our plants alive, or harvesting to keep our unruly courgettes and cucumbers in check!
Again, there is no commitment to do a slot every month - you simply let us know month to month whether you're able to chip in. Full training and instructions will be provided. If you're interested, contact Jamie on email, or call/Whatsapp him on 07758 237078.
Your Farm Needs You!
Sometimes we need muscles or many pairs of hands, say when putting up a polytunnel or filling in potholes. Other times we need skills like:
- IT support
- HR advice
- Marketing & Communications
- Governance/legal
- Funding ideas & help
- Building/repairs
- Fun Farm Events - ideas & help
- Arts and craft folk
SCA needs a bank of members we can call upon for specific help now and again, suiting your skills and ability.
Why not send us your suggestions of ways in which you could help? It’s rewarding being part of this amazing farm and our members make it all the more vibrant, fun and interesting!
